Paragraph

If someone wrote a passage about Canada they would might use stereotypes instead of doing research and actually finding out about the culture. They would just write what everyone thinks and make general statements about maple syrup and beavers or mounties. For me to summarize or speak about my culture is hard because i’m in the culture myself and it’s normal for me. To write about a culture and do it correctly you have to know someone personally in the culture and write about them instead the country as a whole. It’ll show the regular day activities of that person in Canada. I think everyone thinks that Canada is just just full of white people but if you walk down the street you’ll notice all the mixed races. I think everyones different in Canada but it’s the diversity makes Canada. It’s tough to just write about Canada as a whole but anyone who tries to do it should focus on certain aspects like individual people.

GIS Writing

Using your maps, memories and your notes from these classes, discussions, readings and prep work, respond to the question using the following steps:

1.     Planning: Brainstorm & Organize (homework)

2.     Writing (in-class)

Question:                How can spatial technologies help us better understand the 2 types of geography, the 5 themes of geography, and the 3 questions of geography?

Planning/Brainstorming

-Arc Gis lets you point out certain locations

-Google maps makes you find everything yourself

Hypothesis/Evidence Template

Question: How can spatial technologies help us better understand the 2 types of geography, the 5 themes of geography, and the 3 questions of geography?

What is the task (in your own words):

The task is to explain how stuff like Arc GIS is relevant and helps us with learning geography.

Key Terms to Discuss:

  • Arc Gis
  • Geography Questions
  • Themes
  • Certain features in Arc GIS

Hypothesis:

Certain Spacial technologies such as Arc GIS can be useful depending on how you use them.

Explanation of Idea

A technology like Arc GIS can be useful for many things. For example my favourite city in the world is New York. Many people as me about New York like where they should go what they should do etc. Using Arc Gis can show tourist attractions and whatnot. Arc GIS can give you more knowledge about certain areas then say google maps.

Evidence    Quotation  Visual Cue    Inference   Connection

In the Google Maps link below you can see that there is no option to tag certain areas and certain areas aren’t clear.

https://www.google.ca/maps?q=New+York+City&es_sm=119&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ei=CNQBVff8FIi2ogS9o4GoCg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg

If you play around in Arc GIS however you find that you can highlight areas of interest and tag them so its a more pleasurable experience.

Extension

Looking at how all the features of GIS are very useful to finding information about certain places it tops google maps because GIS is very specific where as google maps is not.

Explanation of Idea

Arc GIS and other technologies can however be not useful and annoying used the wrong way. GIS requires that you make a map where as google maps is all right there. GIS is good to look at for travelling but is useless for general things like directions.

Evidence    Quotation  Visual Cue    Inference   Connection

There isn’t an option for direction in Arc Gis. I personally use mapping systems all the time for directions and so on. Arc Gis would not help me at all because it has no features like that. Even though you can mark areas down on Arc Gis it still doesn’t show you how to get there.

MERCANTILISM PARAGRAPH

Mercantilism was a system used economically that was used by Europeans during the 16 hundreds. The ultimate goal of Mercantilism is to basically make the country or nation bigger by controlling imports. By controlling how much they import and in the end export more to make more money. All economists in Europe in the 16 hundreds were considered Mercantilists because it was the main economic practice back then. Mercantilism started mainly because most people thought it was the most sensible way to make more money. It’s the same concept of say owning a store and selling your products for more then you buy them. In other words Profit is close to the definition of Mercantilism. The main countries in Europe the introduced and used Mercantilism were Great Britain and France. Even though Mercantilism seemed like the perfect way to gain money there was an anti Mercantilist though that was created by two men named Adam Smith and David Hume. They debunked the theory of Mercantilism with certain flaws like if one country was excellent at producing one product and another country was not good a producing that product but was good at producing another, they should just trade for the two products. That was one of many theories created to try and take down Mercantilism.

Industrial Revolution Essay

The Industrial revolution was a huge point in human history for many reasons, the invention of engines, factory’s and machines. Humans no longer required to do many things manually. In the view of the Utilitarians it was very good in many ways and awful in many ways.

The Industrial revolution was the start of what we have today. But back in the day and in some places now there are many awful things that came from the Industrial revolution. Factory’s were huge when the Industrial revolution started and even though they were producing tons of merchandise, the workers in the factory’s could be treated better. Back to when factory’s first started many workers were unhappy because of several reasons such as how much they were getting paid and the fact they didn’t have healthcare. Most businesses today will get a healthcare plan for all employees but this doesn’t happen in all places. The worst thing was probably that factory’s were bringing in children to work in factory’s. This doesn’t happen today in 1st world countries such as Canada and the United States but it 3rd world areas such as Africa or India there is still child labour. In 3rd world areas there is also a lack of pay towards the workers child or not.

The Industrial Revolution was incredible if you look at the benefits it gave to society. It gave many people jobs that could support them and maybe a family. It also lead to some of the worlds most popular creations today. Using the Industrial Revolution by creating machines that can make life in society much more convenient is pleasing to the general public. With inventions such as the iPhone or Planes that people use frequently today is a result of the Industrial revolution.

In conclusion the ways of the Industrial revolution have stuck with society even today in good and bad ways. Child labour still exists in 3rd world countries and the underpaying of workers does as well but in countries like Canada the Industrial Revolution has benefitted us greatly.

Revolutions are like…..

A revolution is like if a cop arrests three guys in one outing and all the guys who got arrested  teamed up against the cop to escape. This is like a revolution because it’s like the economy (the prisoners) revolting against the government (the cop).
